Welcome Guide
WOOHOOO I am officially your photographer and part of your dream team. By the end of the wedding day I know I will feel like part of your tribe and I cannot wait to be apart of your day.
Take a moment to appreciate your incredible bond that's led you to this milestone... you're getting married
I'm beyond honored to document your day and offer one important piece of advice: plan a wedding that makes you feel amazing and true to yourself. Leisurely read through all the details of this guide to plan your dream day, or simply skim through for a quick overview.
The most important thing is that your wedding feels like you - comfortable, amazing, and unapologetically YOU.
In this guide, I'll cover all the intricacies to help your day run smoothly, so you can focus on saying "I do" and have a blast. Let's dive in!
Getting Ready
Your getting ready time can be both fun and stress-free with a few tips to help make everything run smoothly. Here are some ideas to make your getting ready time extra special:
Who are you getting ready with
Getting ready for your big day can be both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. Remember that you have the freedom to choose who you want to share this special time with. Whether it's a big group or a few close loved ones, the key is to create an atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable and relaxed.
If you're feeling adventurous, why not consider spending the morning with your partner? Imagine sharing intimate moments, calming each other's nerves, and creating lasting memories together. These moments can be captured in photographs and cherished for years to come. Embrace the excitement and make the most of this special time before you say "I do".
It will get messy
Here are tips to ensure your wedding photos are perfect amidst the excitement and chaos of getting ready.
NOMINATE A TIDY TEAM
Nominating family or friends to help keep things organised during your preparation. They can do simple tasks like picking up empty glasses and bottles or discarded hangers to keep the space tidy.
PRIORITISE NATURAL LIGHT AND SPACE
To help capture gorgeous photos, natural light and space are essential. If you're unsure which room to use for photos and as the designated mess-free zone, I'm happy to help you choose. Your tidy team can quickly declutter the room before I start taking pictures.
BEAUTY IN THE CHAOS
Despite having friends around to keep things tidy in the morning, some of the mess may still be visible in the photos as I'll be taking shots from various angles around the house. However, as a documentary photographer, I believe there's a unique beauty in every moment, including the chaos.
Location
At home
Getting ready in the comfort of your own home, or your family's home can add lots of sweet, sentimental details. I will take some ‘establishing shots’ (aka photos to help tell the story of the day) and capturing the meaningful details of of the home or family home can make for truly special images.
Air BNB
Airbnbs can be the perfect location for capturing your getting ready photos. Not only can they provide a cozy and comfortable atmosphere, but also a unique and visually stunning backdrop for your photos.
If you're unsure of where to start, don't hesitate to ask for recommendations or assistance with researching local options. Let's work together to find the perfect Airbnb that complements your style and vision for your wedding day.
Other Accommodation
Show off your personality through your getting-ready location! Whether you choose a luxurious 5-star resort or a quirky retro motel on the side of the road, your photos will be stunning.
Be mindful when choosing a motel, if you do have a large bridal party and lots of people getting ready with you the place can get squishy and messy really quickly.
Here are some handy tips to help you find the ideal getting ready spot:
Look for a space that boasts a generous window, as natural light is incredibly visually appealing.
Opt for a location with a neutral color scheme, as it provides a versatile backdrop for your preparations.
Having a large full-length mirror in the space is definitely a bonus.
Ensure that the area is spacious enough to accommodate your bridal party and vendors comfortably.
Avoid choosing a getting ready space with distracting patterns on the curtains or wallpaper designs

Together or Apart?
You dont have to follow the rules of getting ready apart if that’s not your vibe, dont feel pressured to do so.
Here are some reasons why getting ready together can be a wondering experience.
Starting the day together can help create a sense of calm and happiness, easing any pre-wedding nerves.
Spending the entire day with your partner is a beautiful way to celebrate your love and cherish every moment together.
Getting ready photos of you and your partner can be incredibly adorable and meaningful.
By getting ready in the same location, I can capture more special moments without the need to travel between places.
You can still have a first look and get ready together by preparing separately but sharing a special moment together before the ceremony. This moment can be shared with just the two of you or with your loved ones present.
Whether you decide to get ready separately or together, this will be an incredibly fun and unforgettable part of your day.
Creating the Vibe
Put on some music, crack open some bevvies this is a day of celebration! There are no hard and fast rules for what to do in the morning, so feel free to mix things up and make it your own. You, your partner, and your wedding party can do any activities that will help you get in the mood for the day and make this time even more special. This can include, yoga, golf, a swim or anything you guys love doing.
Food
Don't forget to take care of yourselves with a little sustenance during the getting ready portion of the day. If you're surrounded by family and friends, appoint someone to take charge of food arrangements to keep everyone satisfied, especially you and your partner.
But if it's just the two of you getting ready, let's make sure food preparation isn't on your mind. Bring some yummy snacks, order in or head out to a nearby café for a quick bite. Let's keep those stomachs happy!
Some things I will capture during the bridal preparations.
Let's talk about the fun and exciting moments of getting ready and what you can expect from me during this time!
First off, I'll be capturing all the lovely details that are special to you, such as your shoes, jewelry, flowers, dress, and even your invitation. It's unique for each client, so having everything ready in one spot before I arrive will be a great help.
If you and your bridesmaids have matching PJs (how fun!), I'll definitely capture some shots of you all together before getting dressed. We might even capture a celebratory moment with a bottle of champagne!
When it's time for you to slip into your dress, it's worth considering who you'd like to be there to assist you. Having your mom by your side can create a beautiful, intimate moment between the two of you, making her feel extra special too. Afterward, we can arrange a first look with your bridesmaids and another one with your dad.
Whether it's your bridesmaids, your mom, or even yourself getting you into your dress, it's all up to you! These are just suggestions, and if the first look with your parents isn't your cup of tea, no worries at all. It's your day to make it uniquely yours!
Remember, your wedding day is all about celebrating your love for each other, so don't feel obligated to follow any specific traditions. Do what feels right for you as a couple and enjoy every moment of your special day.
Groom Preparation tips
If the boys aren't enthusiastic about having formal getting ready photos, we can still capture their moments in a relaxed way. They can engage in activities like playing cards, a backyard cricket game, or enjoying drinks by the pool. It will be super casual and fun.
If they do want getting ready photos, here are some tips to ensure a smooth process:
Make sure the boys are showered and dressed in their shirts and pants. They don't need to have everything on yet; I can take care of the finishing touches.
Cut off all the tags from their suits and have their ties or bow ties pre-tied.
Gather everything you want to be photographed together in one place, such as cufflinks, shoes, belt, watch, etc.
Keeping these tips in mind will help us capture memorable moments while ensuring a seamless experience for the boys during the getting ready process.
Timeline planning
I have already touched base with you on the importance of a well planned timeline.
Doing this right will help set the mood for a super chilled and relaxed day where you can enjoy every minute of it. Please dont forget to touch base when setting times for make up, hair and ceremony just to ensure you have left plenty of time.
Groom Preparations- 30-45min
Usually, I start by visiting the guys first. I understand that it can be quite early, and they might need to put on and take off their suits during this time. The duration can vary based on what the couple wants and the size of the bridal party, but in most cases, 30 minutes should be sufficient.
If the boys prefer not to have the complete "getting ready" photos, I always make it a point to meet them before the ceremony. This allows me to capture shots of the groom, groomsmen, and parents, ensuring that their special moments are documented as well.
Bridal preparations- 1.5/2 hours.
The amount of time I spend with the bridesmaids may vary depending on its size, but for parties with more than three bridesmaids, I typically allocate approximately two hours.
It's important to allocate ample time for each moment to unfold naturally. This way, you can savour every precious moment without feeling rushed.
Pre ceremony 30 minutes. -
I arrive 30 minutes prior to the ceremony to set up, capturing the excitement of guests as they arrive and mingle, as well as capturing memorable shots of the groom's party
Ceremony- Allow 1 hour.
30 Minutes for the ceremony, 15 minutes for people congratulating you, 15 minutes of family photos.
Please be aware that the duration may exceed one hour, depending on the size of the wedding and how smoothly the family photos session progresses.
BRIDAL PORTRAITS- Allow min of 1 hour.
If there is travel time in-between ceremony and reception we will discuss this as you will need more time.
Ceremony Location Earlier
To ensure I make it to your ceremony location before you and your guests, I will leave from the getting ready location about 30 minutes before you do. This way, I can familiarise myself with the surroundings, photograph the ceremony setup and have a little chat with your celebrant, before anyone else arrives.
First look
If you are open to stepping away from tradition, a first look at your wedding can offer many benefits. This is where you and your partner share a private moment in your wedding attire while I capture every priceless reaction. Taking place between the getting ready and ceremony part of the day, it allows you to share an intimate moment without an audience, savour more precious time together on your special day, and ease any pre-ceremony nerves.
From a photography perspective, a first look allows me to capture raw genuine emotions, from the tears, smiles, and sheer excitement while you scream at your partner, “you look soooo good!“. It can also expand your photography timeline, ensuring a diverse collection of portraits, group shots, and romantic couple moments. Lastly, if your ceremony is later in the day, a first look enables us to make the most of the warm natural light for your portraits.
Ceremony
For optimal ceremony lighting, consider positioning yourselves in either direct light or all shade. It's best to avoid one of you being in the shade while the other is in the sun, as it can be difficult to capture good photos in this situation. If your ceremony is during the day and it's hot, staying in the shade can also help keep you comfortable.
For indoor or nighttime ceremonies, most venues and churches have adequate lighting, but if you have concerns about the lighting, we can meet at the location before your wedding day to assess the lighting and determine if extra lighting is necessary.
Be sure to hold your partners hand for the duration of the ceremony. Don’t stand apart stand together. This may sound obvious but sometimes it can happen and your standing there awkwardly not knowing what to do with your hands. A good celebrant will make sure of this.
Hold your first kiss for a few seconds so I don’t miss it.
YAY confetti time
End your ceremony with a colourful and fun confetti exit to celebrate your marriage. This can make for some truly gorgeous, incredible photos. You can opt for flower petals as an eco-friendly choice for confetti.
To organise the confetti exit, quietly hand out confetti as the ceremony comes to an end or pre-place it on the chairs before guests arrive A good time to hand them out is when the bride and groom are signing the marriage certificates. Remind your guests not to use it until you both exit the ceremony at the end.
For the best photos, walk down the entire aisle without stopping, while your guests throw confetti or flower petals. To prevent guests from interrupting the moment by hugging or congratulating you, ask your celebrant to announce that congratulations will take place after you have completed the walk.
TIP- avoid dried flowers as they can hurt getting thrown at you and get stuck in all kinds of places.
Check out the link to an awesome shop that sells biodegradable confetti.
Congratulations
After the ceremony, take some time to receive the love and well wishes from your guests. Find a clear and open space near the ceremony site (in the shade if its a hot day) and invite your guests to join you for congratulations. Your celebrant can also help facilitate this by inviting guests to come forward.
If you'd like to make it easier for your guests, you can also take the initiative to walk around and say thank you to each of them. They'll understand that this is their cue to offer their congratulations and share their love with you.
Have your parents follow the bridal party down the aisle so they are one of the first people to congratulate you.
Unplugged Ceremony
Consider a phone-free ceremony, kindly ask guests to keep phones away to fully immerse themselves in the moment. It reduces distractions and helps capture candid shots without obstructions. Your celebrant can easily make the announcement before the ceremony begins to remind guests to turn off their devices and enjoy the ceremony with undivided attention.
Group Photo
Are group photos still a thing? Haha, just kidding! But seriously, if that’s what you want then we will do it. Although I must say, they can sometimes be a bit of a buzz kill. Guests often have their own agenda like showering you with congratulations, hitting up the bar, or just enjoying themselves instead of posing for a photo where half their face is visible.
In reality, rounding everyone up for a group photo can take around 10-15 minutes. People don't always listen, they tend to go missing, or their minds are focused on finding the nearest bar or something else entirely. So, here's what I think: let's make the most of that time by allowing everyone to hug, kiss, and congratulate you instead. It's way more beautiful and memorable to share those genuine moments of love and celebration with your loved ones. After all, those hugs and kisses capture the true essence of your special day!
Family photo
I typically only include immediate family at this time, which I call – parents, siblings, (their partners and children, if applicable) and grandparents. From experience, as soon as you involve all of the aunties, uncles and cousins at this time – the family photos can quickly become chaos. I’m always there for a decent amount of your reception too – so I can get any of those shots later in the day. The more combinations you try and get the more time it will end up cutting into bridal portraits. For immediate family allow around 15-20 min, for more extended family shots allow 20-30
Things run a little smoother if you get a list together of the specific combinations of family photos you want taken. Makes sure no one misses out and saves me putting my foot in it too. I also ask if you could delegate one or two ‘loud’ family or bridal party members who know the majority of the people in the photos to assist me in ’rounding them all up’ – this can also save a lot of time.
If there are any sensitive or challenging family dynamics that I should be mindful of, please feel free to share with me. My goal is to create a comfortable and stress-free environment for everyone on your special day

Wedding Party photos
During the photo session with your wedding party and the two of you, I prefer to take all the wedding party photos first before taking you both for some intimate shots. This way, you can have a moment to catch your breath and enjoy each other's company for the rest of the shoot.
If you want your wedding party to join in the couple's photo session, we can make it happen. But, I may suggest taking a short walk away from the group to capture some stunning shots of just you two.
Depending on the size of the bridal party I usually spend 20-30 minutes with the bridal party.
What to take during the Bridal party/Couple portraits.
Touch-up make up and mirror
Comb & Bobby pin
Spare shoes (just in case your feet get sore if we’re walking alot between locations
Champagne/refreashments

Spray that champgne
Spray it not drink it.
Let's make your bridal party photos even more fun and relaxed! How about we incorporate bubbles into the session? Instead of drinking it, let's have a blast spraying them at me. It adds a playful touch and creates a carefree atmosphere that will result in some amazing and candid shots. Take a look at the examples below to see the joy and excitement that bubbles can bring to the photos. It's a simple and effortless way to have a great time during your session.
If this is something you're keen on purchase around 2/3 bottles of the cheap stuff and bring them along to the photos.

Hot Tip for feeling great in your couple photos
One of my top tips to help you feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera is to schedule an engagement session prior to your wedding day. This will give us the chance to get to know each other better plus, you’ll have even more beautiful photos for your walls! You can even use the engagement photos for your RSVPs, wedding invitations, and holiday greeting cards.
The most important thing to remember is to just be yourself! I understand that posing for photos can be daunting, but trust me, I will be there every step of the way, guiding you and making you feel at ease.
And if you're not a fan of posing, no problem! I love capturing candid moments too, and I will provide subtle prompts to help you feel natural and comfortable during your shoot.
Reception
My goal is to maximize your time with guests and ensure you have enough beautiful photos without keeping you away for too long.
Typically, I only need about an hour for portraits, allowing you to comfortably enjoy the experience and capture stunning shots. My working hours usually don't extend beyond 9:30 pm, but rest assured, this is plenty of time to capture all the important moments and the lively dance floor action. Speaking of dancing, around half an hour is usually enough to capture everyone's moves. It's often the same enthusiastic dancers, so we can focus on the highlights.
The timing of formalities during the event will depend on whether you're having set meal times or a cocktail-style reception. Cocktail meals offer more flexibility in scheduling. However, if you're serving an entree and main meal, we'll need to work the formalities around those times.
I strongly believe in getting the formalities done efficiently so the real party can kick off. However, it can be challenging if we have to navigate meal times or if there are many speeches to get through. One advantage of completing some speeches early is that it allows the speakers to relax and enjoy the rest of the night. Unless it's a 21st birthday, it's best to advise your speakers to keep their speeches simple and short. Trust me, I've experienced speeches that dragged on for an hour, and we want to avoid that.
Meals
Yes I do require a meal if I am staying over meal times.
I probably havent had a chance to eat since lunch so I am usually starving.
Its important I get fed the same time as the bridal party- Unforteutnly we are usually the lasts and we end up having a few bites and rushing off to catch the next formality. Some venues get this- some dont.
Sunset photos
Let's pencil in some time for epic sunset photos! Trust me, you won't regret it. We're talking a maximum of 20 minutes, but let me tell you, it's going to be absolutely worth it. The light during that golden hour is pure magic.
Not only will it be a chance to capture stunning shots, but it's also a special moment for you and your partner to reconnect after going in different directions during the reception. Leave your flowers behind, don't worry about your veil, and take off that jacket. And hey, bring your champagne along too!
Believe me, most of the time these sunset photos end up being some of the absolute favorites.

Dont stress about the dress
Let's talk about that fabulous dress of yours, the star of the show! I know you've invested a lot in finding the perfect gown for your big day. Now, here's a little truth bomb: no matter how careful you are, that dress is bound to get a little dirty.
My photography style is all about capturing natural and authentic moments, which means we'll be on the move, exploring and having fun. I won't make you jump into puddles or trek through mud, I promise!
However, I do encourage a bit of adventure and freedom to capture those moments.
I'll help you fluff it up, hold it when needed, and ensure you look absolutely gorgeous throughout the day.
Embrace the idea that a little dirt won't diminish your beauty or the memories we'll create together.
Take a break
As much as I am dedicated to capturing every moment of your special day, I am only human and will need to take breaks to eat, drink, and catch my breath. I always bring some snacks with me, but when dinnertime comes, I will eat at the same time as you and your guests. No one wants photos of themselves while eating anyway, so I won't be missing anything.
Trust me and your vendors
When a client trusts me whole heartedly then that is when I do my best work. You chose me for a reason. Some things I ask you to do might sound silly but it will be worth it in the end. I have been doing this a hell of a long time now. I know a thing or two about where the best light is, what looks good and how to get “the shot”
Weather
In the event of rain, don't fret! Rainy shots can be incredibly romantic and unique. If you're unsure of the weather or if rain is forecasted, I highly recommend purchasing some nice, sturdy umbrellas just in case. This way, we can still capture some beautiful moments without getting drenched. Let's work together to make the most out of whatever weather comes our way.
